JC. Princen Brazil Tourist Spots | Carioca Aqueduct is also known as Arcos da Lapa and is located in Rio de Janeiro. Built in the middle 18th century, the aqueduct brought fresh water from the Carioca River into the city. This is an example of colonial engineering and architecture.
Carioca Aqueduct can be found in the center of the city in the Lapa neighborhood. The aqueduct has been serving as a bridge between the Santa Teresa Tramway and the Santa Teresa neighborhood uphill since the end of 19th century.
Arcos da Lapa is the most well-known image of Lapa. It was built in 1724 as an aqueduct to transport water from Santa Teresa Forest to the fountain in Largo da Carioca.
It was built in 1896 as the base of the viaduct, which transports streetcars to the city’s center. Lapa, which has always been somewhat bohemian, was once the hub of Rio’s alternative nightlife.
It still has a lively nightlife that attracts people from all parts of the city to enjoy the best Brazilian music. Rio Scenarium and Cariocade Gema are the main hot spots. The area was home to the Circo Voador (Flying Circus), which returned in 2004. It is now held in a new purpose-built music venue, replacing the tent from the 1980s and 1990s. The Circo Voador was the first venue for many of the most prominent names in Brazilian music, including Seu Jorge.
