Hallyeohaesang National Park is located in South Gycongsang province, South Korea. Hallyeohaesang Marine National Park covers areas including Geoje Island, Hansan Island, and the surrounding islands.

Hallyeohaesang is located in South Gyeongsang province, South Korea. Hallyeohaesang Marine National Park covers areas including Geoje Island, Hansan Island, and the surrounding islands. This National Park is one of the eight most scenic spots in South Korea. It has biological richness including flora and fauna.

Hallyeohaesang began to be known since it was designated as a national park in 1968 and became Korea’s national marine park. It has an ecosystem consisting of thousands of islands and Hallyeo waters

The park is quiet, stretching for 120 km from Geoje in South Gyeongsang to Yeosu in South Jeolla. The area is 545.63 km2 with 72% of the area is water. Of the whole island, as many as 69 islands are uninhabited, while only 30 are inhabited.

Some of the islands in the Hallyeohaesang National Park cluster include:

1. Geojedo Island

This island is the 2nd largest island in Korea, located 150.9 km southeast of Busan. The transportation route from the Korean Peninsula to the island is connected to the Geoje Bridge. The beaches at Geoje have white sand and beautiful rocks. The most unique part of nature’s appearance is in the form of rocks of various shapes, dubbed as Haegeumgang or Mount Geumgang in the Sea.

 

2. Somaemuldo Island

This island is dubbed the island with the most beautiful views in the Hallyeohaesang group.

 

3. Saryangdo Island

The Saryando island which is located in the middle of Hallyeohaesang National Park consists of two islands, namely Sang Island and Ha Island, which are separated by a narrow strait with a heavy current of 1,500 m.

 

4. Hansando Island

Hansando Island is under the administration of Tongyeong City. During the Seven Years War period, the island of Hansando was made a naval base commanded by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Not far from Hansando Island, there is Bamboo Island (Jukdo) which was used by Admiral Yi to make arrows.

 

5. Bijindo Island.

Bijindo Island is located 13 km southeast of Tongyeong City. The island consists of rock formations and a 1 km long beach. The average temperature on the island throughout the year is only 25 ° C, making it a suitable place for the growth of flora, camellia, magnolia, jasmine, and black fir.
