The California State Railroad Museum is a museum in Sacramento, California, that is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the state’s railroad history. It is located in Old Sacramento, a historic district of the city that was once a center of commerce and transportation during the California Gold Rush.

The museum features a large collection of historic trains, locomotives, and other railroad equipment, as well as exhibits on the history of railroading in California and the West. Some of the highlights of the collection include the Central Pacific Railroad’s “Jupiter” locomotive, which played a key role in the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, and the Southern Pacific Railroad’s “Daylight” streamliner, a luxury passenger train that operated in California from the 1930s to the 1950s.

The museum also offers a variety of educational programs, including guided tours, hands-on exhibits, and special events such as “Day Out with Thomas,” a popular family event featuring Thomas the Tank Engine.

If you’re interested in the history of railroading in California or just love trains, the California State Railroad Museum is definitely worth a visit.
