Travellingto.asia – The Penang State Government and the Embassy of Chile in Malaysia are working together to increase tourism in the state and in the country.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said both parties had an exchange of views regarding the visit by Ambassador Extraordinary and Permanent from Chile to Malaysia Diego Velasco-Von Pilgrimm which could result in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future.
According to Yeoh There are three possible sectors which the state as well as Chile can collaborate on to improve tourism, including the arts, gastronomy, ecotourism and culture, or creative industries.
“Penang and Chile stand out due to their cultural diversity, which is the point of pride for the two destinations… It is here that we are able to discover a variety of tourist destinations as both places share similarities in having rich historical and cultural tourism .
“Besides the fact that both are recognized as street foods and culinary culture, which holds a lot of potential. Chilean cuisine has numerous influences like Inca and Mapuche and Penang food is also a mix of diverse cuisines that mix with harmony, and compliment one other…I believe that through food, people will be able to be able to experience culture and interact with the people of Penang,” he told reporters in Penang today.
The two destinations are united in their desire to achieve sustainable development within their cities and thus the partnership in transferring information, culture technology, and trade within this framework could benefit both destinations.
Yeoh stated that the state government has plans to hold an Chile food show and competition within a short period of time to mark the beginning of Chile’s introduction Chile in Penangites.
However, Pilgrimm said Chile is hoping to establish the possibility of a sister city partnership with Penang that will be an open-ended relationship that will last for a long time. partnership between two communities , as well as youth exchanges to understand about each other’s cultures and differentiating.
“We (Chile as well as Penang) are both in agreement about the importance of conserving.
