Book your flight during nap time or overnight

It will be much easier for you to fly with your child if they sleep during the flight, rather than trying to entertain them all day. Book your long-haul flight with your child during their nap.

Use Overnight Diapers

Although airplanes have changing tables in their bathrooms, it is essentially a table for ants. An overnight diaper can reduce diaper changes on long flights and prevent your baby from getting pooped on mid-flight.

Dress your baby and yourself comfortably

Comfortable pajamas or a breathable outfit for babies is best. Layers are best if you plan on nursing during flight. It is important to have a supportive nursing bra with an easy take the titty off top.

Your carry-on should contain a change of clothes for you and your baby.

Consider yourself a queen/king if you don't get peed on, pooped, or spit up on during your journey. Your baby won't spit all over their clothes or blow out their diaper. You should be prepared for all these scenarios and bring extra clothes for you and your baby to avoid getting dirty or smelly clothing.

Consider yourself a "carry on luggage only" person. But if you have a baby to take along, along with a stroller, diaperbag, and formula or milk, to help minimize the number of carry on items we had. It is easier to just check one suitcase, rather than lugging around a bunch of stuff from one gate to the next

Stick to your routine

It's likely that you won't be able to adhere to the routine to a T however, you can try to follow your routine during your journey day to guide your baby to know what's coming up. A routine can really help to soothe baby girl, and she went to sleep right away!

Request a bassinet

If you're flying internationally, many airlines have bassinets for babies. Go to the airline's website and see whether they offer them and if your child is small enough, contact them prior to departure and ask for one! The airline will provide you with a bassinet compatible seat

Talk to the gate agent!

Don't be afraid of speaking to the gate staff and make yourself heard. Many airlines will assist families in need! If, for instance, there's an empty seat on the plane, they may be able to change your seat to make an empty seat next you.
